"If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Let your chains set lightly upon thee, and let posterity forget that ye were our countrymen."
I have been a professional freedom writer / freedom fighter since 1998, when I graduated with a religious studies degree from Reed College and started an internship at the Portland, Ore.-based libertarian think tank Cascade Policy Institute. Four years later I left my position as the Institute's director of publications and moved to Oregon's rural Wallowa Mountain Valley to start the freedom policy think tank, Freedom Solutions NW. My research necessarily began focusing on farm policy, and in 2004 my syndicated column, My Free Country, began on the small acreage page of the Western agricultural newspaper Capital Press, to the delight of freedom-loving farm folk throughout the West. My Free Country runs in Capital Press on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month and in a growing number of other newspapers.
